Peru
I went to Peru in 2012 as a chaperon on a school exchange program. The people are as congenial as any people I’ve ever met anywhere, the country is stunning in its beauty, the history is as compelling as that of any world culture, and the food is world-class. It is not hard to see why Lima is suddenly the hot destination for Norteamericanos in South America, and why Machu Picchu is one of the world’s wonders. Well aware that I found special treatment in Peru due to my position, I still treasure the memories of the weeks I spent in that gracious and extraordinary country.
